Privacy Policy
Effective Date: March 20, 2026
This is the privacy policy for Shiny, a trading card app built by Shiny Cardboard LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). It covers what we collect, how we use it, and what control you have, whether you're using the Shiny app ("App") or our website ("Site"). By using Shiny, you're agreeing to this policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the App or Site.
Who Can Use Shiny
You need to be at least 13 years old to use Shiny. If you're under 18, make sure you have permission from a parent or guardian. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If we find out we have, we'll delete it.
What We Collect
Here's a breakdown of the information we gather when you use Shiny:
Things You Give Us
- Account Info - Your name, email, password, and any profile details you choose to add when signing up.
- Profile Info - Anything tied to your public profile: images, descriptions, links to other services, usernames, etc.
- Card Listings - When you list cards for sale, trade, or purchase, we collect the details: images, descriptions, pricing, and so on.
- Collection Data - The cards you add to your collection. We may use this to suggest products or cards we think you'd be interested in.
- Uploaded Images - Any images you upload (including scans) may be stored indefinitely. We share these with third-party services like cloud hosting and image recognition providers to help identify cards. We may also use your images to train and improve our AI models for card recognition. Your images and associated data may be shared with third-party partners for similar purposes. We never store personally identifiable details alongside your images.
- Messages - If you contact support or chat with other users, we collect those messages and related metadata.
Things We Collect Automatically
- Device Info - Your operating system, device model, and unique device identifiers.
- Usage Data - How you use Shiny: what you search for, which cards you view, your interactions with other users, and your transaction history.
- Location - With your permission, we may collect location data to show you relevant listings and market info. We might also use your selected currency to make a guess about where you are.
- Cookies & Tracking - Our Site may use cookies, pixels, and similar tech to improve your experience and analyze how people use Shiny. You can manage these in your browser settings. The App uses similar tools like local storage and analytics SDKs.
Things We Get from Others
We may receive info from third-party services like Google Play or the Apple App Store when you sign in through them.
How We Use Your Info
We use what we collect to:
- Keep Shiny running, improve it, and build new features.
- Power card listing, buying, selling, and trading.
- Build and display your public profile.
- Recommend cards and products based on what you're into.
- Prevent fraud and enforce our terms of service.
- Answer your questions and provide support.
- Run analytics to make the App better.
- Suggest products and services we think you'll like.
Who We Share It With
- Other Users - Your public listings, profile, username, and activity may be visible to other Shiny users.
- Service Providers - We work with vendors for things like payment processing, hosting, and analytics. They get access to the data they need to do their job.
- Legal Authorities - If the law requires it, or if we need to protect our rights, we may share data with regulators or law enforcement.
- Business Transfers - If Shiny is ever acquired, merged, or sells assets, user data may be part of that transaction.
How Long We Keep It
We hold onto your data as long as your account is active or as needed for legal reasons. If you delete your account, we'll remove or anonymize your data within 30 days, unless we're legally required to keep it.
How We Protect It
We use security measures to keep your data safe from unauthorized access, changes, or leaks. That said, nothing on the internet is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute protection.
If Something Goes Wrong
If there's ever a data breach that affects your info, we'll let you and the relevant authorities know as required by law. We aim to send notifications by email or in-app notice within 72 hours of discovering the breach.
International Transfers
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your own, including the United States. These places may have different privacy laws. By using Shiny, you're okay with that. Where the law requires it, we'll make sure proper safeguards are in place.
Your Rights
You're in control of your data. Here's what you can do:
- Access & Fix - Review and update your account info anytime.
- Delete Your Account - You can do this in the App settings or by reaching out to us.
- Get Your Data - Request a copy of your personal data in a portable format.
- Opt Out of Marketing - Manage your preferences in the App settings.
- Turn Off Location - Disable location tracking in your device settings.
- Withdraw Consent - If we're processing your data based on consent, you can take that back anytime. It won't affect anything we did before you withdrew.
- Do Not Sell My Info - You can opt out of the sale of your personal information by emailing us at contact@getshiny.io.
If You're in the EEA
We process your data under a few legal bases: to provide you the App (contract), with your permission (consent), for things like analytics and fraud prevention (legitimate interests), and to follow the law. Under the GDPR, you also have the right to file a complaint with your local data protection authority.
If You're in California
Under the CCPA, you have the right to know what personal info we collect, request its deletion, and opt out of its sale. We won't treat you differently for exercising these rights.
Third-Party Links
Shiny may link to other websites or services. We're not responsible for how they handle your data, so check their privacy policies before engaging with them.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll post the changes in the App and on the Site and update the date at the top. For anything major, we'll give you a heads up via email or in-app notification before it takes effect. Continuing to use Shiny after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
